Palmdale, CA.- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.7 that struck Eastern Russia has triggered a tsunami watch for coastal areas, including Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties in California.
There is a Tsunami Advisory in effect for the entire West Coast of the U.S. Here are tsunami safety tips for those in coastal areas. Boaters may need to leave harbor and go to a depth of at least 50 to 1000 fathoms. People on land should avoid harbors & marinas, get off and away from the beach. The tsunami arrival times for SW California will be between 1230 to 130 AM Wednesday morning. Increased water levels potentially 2-3 feet north of Point Conception are possible, 0.9 to 1.7 feet near Santa Barbara Harbor, decreasing to under 1 foot for Los Angeles Harbor.
