Sacramento, CA. -The California Retailers Association (CRA) President and CEO Rachel Michelin issued the following statement in response to CalRecycle's decision to extend the deadline for labeling of compostable products:
"On behalf of the members of the California Retailers Association who represent California’s grocery and big box retailers, I want to thank Governor Newsom and CalRecycle Director Zoe Heller for extending the labeling of compostable products under AB 1201. Their action ensures consumers and retailers can continue using compostable bags for produce and meat—avoiding unnecessary costs, supply chain disruptions and limited options at checkout.
"This extension preserves a critical compliance pathway under SB 54, supporting both affordability and environmental progress. Governor Newsom and Director Heller’s leadership demonstrates that smart, cost-effective solutions are at the heart of California’s sustainability efforts. The California Retailers Association looks forward to working together to keep California a leader in environmental policy while protecting consumers and businesses alike."
