Lancaster, Ca.- Mental health concerns are more common than you might think, but many people hesitate to ask important questions about their emotional well-being.
According to Kaiser Permanente Antelope Valley Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Nora Durzo, there are many questions patients want to ask, but often don't.
When Should I Seek Help?
“You don't have to wait for a crisis to talk about your mental health,” says Durzo. “If you're experiencing changes in sleep, mood or daily functioning that last more than a couple of weeks, it’s worth having a conversation with your healthcare provider.”
Durzo emphasizes that seeking support early often leads to better outcomes and more treatment options.
Is This Just Stress or Something More Serious?
Understanding the difference between everyday stress and a mental health concern may not always be clear. “Stress is a normal part of life, but when it starts interfering with your relationships, work or ability to enjoy activities, that's when we want to take a closer look,” Durzo explains. “The good news is that these feelings are treatable, and you don’t have to figure it out all by yourself.”
Common signs that it’s time to reach to a mental health provider include:
Persistent feelings of sadness or anxiety.
Changes in sleep or appetite.
Difficulty concentrating.
Loss of interest in activities you usually enjoy.
Feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks.
Finding Support That Works for You
Treatment looks different for everyone, according to Durzo. “At Kaiser Permanente, we offer a range of options, from therapy to medication to lifestyle support,” she said. “Many people find relief through a combination of approaches, and we work together to find what works best for each person.”
