Palmdale, CA.- Residents across the Antelope Valley , are cleaning up after several days of heavy rainfall.
Supervisor Kathryn Barger is highlighting the reopening of Palmdale Boulevard between Palmdale and Lake Los Angeles as well as three other major roads in the eastern Antelope Valley.
Also opened are Avenue I between 50th Street East and 60th Street East, Avenue N from 50th Street East to 70th Street East and 70th Street East from Avenue N to Palmdale Boulevard.
“I hear the urgency and frustration from Antelope Valley residents who feel isolated and need their roads cleared so they can safely reach their homes, jobs, and essential services,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “Public Works crews are in the field daily assessing conditions and working to reopen roads as quickly as safety allows. I expect clear timelines and consistent, transparent updates so the community knows what to expect and when relief is coming.”
Big Rock and Little Rock creeks, filled with water from recent storms, continue to flow across some of the roads, so Public Works officials advised motorists to drive slowly and carefully.
Avenue M near Lake Los Angeles is scheduled to reopen today, January 7, followed by Avenue K on Thursday, January 8.
In addition, 150th Street East is expected to reopen on January12, and 50th Street East on January19.
For other closed roads in the Antelope Valley, Los Angeles County Public Works crews continue to conduct daily field assessments and remove mud and debris in accordance with the Department’s Road Closure Policy.
As conditions evolve, crews are performing ongoing evaluations to ensure roads meet safety standards prior to reopening. Public safety remains the County’s top priority.
“We are working as quickly as possible to restore access, while taking the necessary steps to ensure roadways are safe for travel,” said Mark Pestrella, Director of Los Angeles County Public Works.
To support traffic safety and mobility, Los Angeles County Public Works is sharing alternative route information and road safety messages through bilingual social media posts and website updates. The Department will continue to provide updates as conditions change. Daily road closure information is available at:pw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures.
Residents may report storm-related damage, flooding, signal outages, or other concerns in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County by contacting LA County Public Works’ 24/7 Dispatch Center at 800-675-4357.
