Barbara Gaines Seeks Re-Election to Antelope Valley College Board of Trustees Area 5.

PALMDALE, Calif. — Barbara Gaines, a longtime member of the Antelope Valley College (AVC) Board of Trustees, is seeking re-election in the November 2026 election, highlighting her years of service, campus improvements, workforce development programs, and commitment to student success.
In her re-election campaign statement, Gaines says she has served on the AVC Board of Trustees for the past 13 years, building on more than three decades of experience in education.
Gaines emphasizes the importance of responsible leadership, transparency, and making decisions that benefit students and the Antelope Valley community.
Campus Improvements and Workforce Development
Among the accomplishments highlighted in her campaign are the passage of a $350 million bond measure in 2016 to modernize college facilities and the expansion of career education programs in aerospace, nursing, automotive technology, fire technology, and welding.
Gaines also points to more than 4,000 graduates and certificate earners in 2026 as evidence of the college’s role in preparing students for employment and future opportunities.
According to Gaines, these educational achievements contribute to stronger families, a more skilled workforce, and continued economic development throughout the Antelope Valley.
Focus on Affordability and Transparency
Looking ahead, Gaines says her priorities include maintaining fiscal responsibility, increasing transparency, encouraging innovation, and ensuring that students have access to affordable, high-quality education.
She believes effective trustees should listen to the community, build trust, and make responsible decisions.
Gaines is asking voters for another term on the board, promising to continue expanding educational pathways, strengthening community partnerships, and creating opportunities for future generations.
Her campaign message centers on the belief that investing in education benefits the entire Antelope Valley.
