AV Walmart will start administering Covid-19 vaccines.
As of April 2, Walmart is administering vaccines in 48 states and jurisdictions at more than 3,800 locations.
In partnership with states and the federal government, we are administering in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
Our pharmacists (and pharmacy technicians in some states) give millions of shots a year, and they are trained under strict, up-to-date guidelines to be able to administer vaccines.
As we work with state and local officials, we’re using a variety of tools and information from CDC and other sites to be thoughtful and purposeful in cases of limited vaccine allocation. This way, we can have the best impact possible in our 5,000+ Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.
We’re also actively educating our associates and customers, so they feel confident about getting the vaccine as early as they’re eligible. We are not requiring associates to get the COVID-19 vaccine, nor are we providing incentives for getting vaccinated at this time.
To check COVID-19 vaccine availability and eligibility in your area, access your state department of health website on the map below. Eligible customers can schedule a vaccine appointment directly via the Walmart and Sam's Club websites when times are available.
Do customers need an appointment to get a vaccination? Check with your state’s department of health for additional information about how the process is working in your state. At this time, all Walmart and Sam’s Club vaccination appointments can only be made through the online scheduler for in-club and in-store vaccinations. Appointment availability is based on current allocation, so appointments will be limited based on quantities allocated by federal and state governments. In addition to appointments, the scheduler will provide a digital reminder when it is time to return for the second vaccine, which is why customers are asked to create a profile, helping to ensure customers receive the second dose of the vaccine.
A membership is not required to get a vaccination at Sam’s Club.
How do I know if I'm eligible for a vaccine? Vaccine eligibility varies based on state and local guidelines. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) provides guidance to states as they prioritize vaccine administration, and Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacists administer the vaccine based on each state’s eligibility requirements. Customers can check their eligibility by visiting their state department of health website or Walmart.com/covidvaccine or SamsClub.com/covid.
What do I need to bring to my appointment? 1. On the day of your appointment, please bring your insurance card if you have one. 2. CDC does not require proof of age, occupation, or any other type of credentials; instead it relies on you to attest that you meet current eligibility. - You may need to verify eligibility in Kentucky and New York, please check their vaccine websites. 3. Please plan to stay on site for at least 15 minutes after your shot for monitoring.
What happens if my store or club is closed due to weather, or weather is preventing travel to my appointment? In the event of inclement weather, Walmart pharmacies will work with you to reschedule your vaccine appointment. The pharmacies will call patients to reschedule vaccine appointments if the store or club is closed.
What is Walmart’s role in administering the COVID-19 vaccine? Walmart will administer the vaccine once Walmart is allocated doses to people who are eligible as determined by federal and state governments.
When will vaccines be available in Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies? Currently, only eligible populations as determined by each state can receive the vaccine. Each week, we are receiving allocations from state and federal governments. As vaccine doses are received, appointments will appear in the scheduler, so eligible people can make an appointment for their vaccination.
Who is prioritized to receive the vaccine? The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) provides guidance to assist states as they prioritize vaccine distribution. The ACIP makes the recommendation that states can choose to follow or determine their own priorities for patient eligibility.

Is the vaccine safe? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration decides to authorize vaccines based on the safety and efficacy of each vaccine. The FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, and shipments of the vaccine are being sent to states and pharmacies. Which COVID-19 vaccines do Walmart and Sam’s Club offer? We will offer only FDA-authorized vaccines allocated by the government.
Did your pharmacists require special training? In addition to the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) immunization training, all of our pharmacists received specific training on the vaccines they are administering.
How many vaccines does Walmart plan to administer? We will administer as much vaccine as the state and federal government allocates to our pharmacies.
Will the federal government provide the vaccine to you? Yes, all vaccines are being provided by the federal government or allocated from state supply.
Is there a cost to the vaccine? If so, what is the price? The federal government is providing the vaccine at no cost. Walmart’s fee to administer the vaccine will be billed to private insurance or the federal government.
How do I schedule my second dose? When a customer receives the first dose at a Sam’s Club or Walmart location, our pharmacy staff will schedule second doses through a manual process while the customer is on site.
When I enter my ZIP code in the scheduler, no stores are showing up. Why is this? We are rolling out the vaccine to select stores as they are approved by state and federal governments, and your local stores may not yet have been selected to administer the vaccine. The locations are determined by the state and federal government to administer to specific populations as determined by the state. The availability of vaccines will continue to change, so we appreciate your patience and please continue to check back.
Is Walmart only administering the vaccine in the pharmacy? No, Walmart is partnering with community organizations to host COVID-19 vaccination events, mainly in communities most vulnerable to COVID-19. In select states, we are hosting vaccination events in the store, at drive-thru clinics in our parking lots and at third-party sites like community centers, churches and other locations.
