AV ACTIVISTS SUPPORT SHERIFF LUNA'S CALL FOR DEPUTIES TO REVEAL GANG TATOOS
Lancaster, CA) - On Thursday, June 1, 2023, The Antelope Valley African American Leadership Council (AV-AALC) will host a press conference with community leaders, activists, and clergy to support Sheriff Luna's demand that Sheriff Deputies reveal gang tattoo affiliations despite the Association for Los Angeles Sheriffs (ALAADS) union opposition.
Leaders will also call for the dissolution of the Community Advisory Committees (CAC), demand that LAD fully comply with the 2015 Settlement Agreement with the Department of Justice (DOJ), and seek the removal of Captain John Lecrivian from the Lancaster Sheriffs Station. Community leaders will attest to the ineffectiveness of the CAC in both cities and will share stories and what they have experienced serving on the CAC, and the reason why we believe the CAC must be dismantled and replaced with an independent citizen monitoring commission, free of LASD control authority.
Leaders will explain why Captain Lectivian must be immediately removed as Captain of the Lancaster Sheriffs Station and his role in the CAC as being non-effective. "True accountability, trust and transparency must be addressed at all levels of justice if there is to be a genuine relationship between LASD and our community," said Bishop V. Jesse Smith, Chair, AV-AALC.
