avdailynews.com

California City, For over a month, The California City Police Department has been actively investigating reports of animal abuse at a residential property in California City. On 01/07/2025, the California City Police Department’s Animal Control and Police Officers responded to Laquenta Reynolds’ home at 20621 94th Street in California City, in reference to a report of several dogs being kept in poor condition in the garage of the home. Reynolds was operating a dog rescue called “Pawfect Companions” out of the home. Officers arrived and Reynolds allowed access to her garage. Fifteen (15) dogs were being kept in metal dog crates with several of them appearing emaciated and having apparent wounds on their extremities. The dogs were removed from the home and five (5) of them were taken for emergency veterinarian care.

It was determined that the animals were suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and open infected wounds with bacterial and fungal infections. It was also determined after thorough investigation that the animals were allowed to fall into poor condition while under the care of Reynolds and their conditions were due to her neglecting them and allowing them to needlessly suffer while not providing adequate food or water. Based on these facts and new findings a search warrant was sought and granted.

On 01/31/2025, California City Police Department officers along with Animal Control, Code Enforcement, and the Fire Department responded and executed the warrant. Thirty-three (33) additional dogs were seized from bedrooms, common areas, and closets in the home. Reynolds was taken into custody and booked for animal cruelty 597(b) PC. The 33 seized dogs were not in grave condition and were sent to other approved and safe animal rescues in California.

The California City Police Department takes crimes against animals very seriously, and we will not hesitate to hold anyone accountable for animal cruelty in California City.

All suspects in this case are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
