PALMDALE, Calif. — Andrew Rowe, who has served on the Westside Union School District (WUSD) Governing Board since 2022, is seeking reelection, emphasizing his commitment to improving student achievement, strengthening campus safety, and maintaining responsible financial management throughout the district.

A longtime Antelope Valley resident, Rowe has lived and worked in the region for more than two decades. His family has strong connections to Westside Union schools, with one of his two children having completed the district’s schools and now attending high school, while his other child remains enrolled in the district.

“Westside Union has been an important part of our family’s life,” Rowe said. “Having children who have gone through these schools gives me a personal stake in ensuring every student receives a strong education in a safe, supportive environment.”

Engineering Background Shapes Leadership Approach

Rowe brings professional experience in aerospace engineering to his role as a school board trustee. He says that background has influenced his approach to decision-making, emphasizing practical solutions, efficient use of resources, and careful consideration of long-term consequences.

His leadership philosophy focuses on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, particularly when addressing challenges affecting students, educators, and families.

Academic Recovery and Campus Safety

Since joining the Governing Board in 2022, Rowe has supported district efforts aimed at addressing academic and attendance challenges that emerged following the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to his reelection statement, those efforts have included improving student discipline, supporting academic recovery, and approving a contract with the Lancaster Police Department to provide school resource officers on campuses.

Rowe also points to the district’s educational accomplishments, including accreditation through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and recognition through Golden Bell awards for outstanding educational programs.

Another accomplishment highlighted in his campaign statement is the district’s fully funded Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) obligation, which he identifies as an example of responsible long-term financial planning.

Priorities for Another Term

Looking ahead, Rowe says he wants to build on successful academic programs and expand effective practices across district campuses.

One of his primary goals is to ensure that improvements achieved at individual schools or in specific academic subjects can be implemented district-wide, allowing more students to benefit from proven educational strategies.

He also plans to continue supporting programs that serve students at different academic levels, from those needing additional assistance to those ready for more advanced educational opportunities.

Financial stability remains another central priority. Rowe advocates maintaining appropriate district reserves to protect educational services against potential economic downturns and future funding challenges.

Commitment to Families and the Community

Throughout his tenure, Rowe says he has worked to maintain productive relationships with fellow trustees, district employees, parents, and community organizations.

He believes cooperation among these groups is essential to addressing educational challenges and creating an environment where students can succeed academically and personally.

“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made and ensuring Westside Union continues to provide a high-quality education for every student,” Rowe stated.

As voters prepare to select representatives for the Westside Union School District Governing Board, Rowe is asking the community for another opportunity to serve and continue the work he began in 2022.

His reelection campaign centers on maintaining district progress while pursuing additional improvements in academic performance, student safety, and financial accountability.
