90th Street East Projects to start

Unincorporated 90th Street East – In January 2022 at the North County Transportation Coalition 1st Quarterly meeting, several road projects were listed, two of which were 90th Street East mill projects.

293 – 90th Street East phase 1 Avenue J to Avenue D pavement resurfacing in design with spring 2022 as a proposed start date. The start date is April 15.

294 – 90th Street East phase 2 Palmdale Boulevard to Avenue J pavement resurfacing in design with spring 2022 proposed start date. The starting date for that needs to be confirmed with the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster.

Road signs are up announcing the dates of the work from East Avenue J to East Avenue D, project #293, phase 1. The start date and finish date can vary with starting earlier or later and finishing earlier or later, partially dependent upon the weather. This will be a mill and fill project.

Mill & Fill is a structural pavement treatment that involves the removal of the existing surface layer, and in some cases the entire asphalt pavement thickness, with a milling machine and the replacement of the milled location with new asphalt. This process is used when a surface has deteriorated to poor condition and surrounding grades must be met.

The benefit of Mill & Fill restores and strengthens a road’s surface layer by restoring the pavement to a “like new” condition. When a road has deteriorated to poor condition, pavement preservation treatments no longer provide long-term improvements and structural reconstruction is required.

What to expect: The Mill & Fill process can take a few days to several weeks to complete depending on the length and width of the project.
