Lake Los Angeles – Stephen Sorensen Community Regional Park – The park was filled with over 100 eager soccer students and 20+ volunteers to hold a soccer clinic for our youth here in Lake Los Angeles.

The list of sponsors filled the backs of the tee shirts. These tee shirts for the clinics have become a collector’s item to remember the occasion and the fun everyone had.

Every parking place was taken except one which I took. There were cars parked outside on the shoulder of the road.

Parents and family members sat on lawn chairs and blankets to watch from the grassy area as the kids played soccer on the soccer field and inside the softball field.

A new organization and sponsor here for the first time was ROOTED. The goals of ROOTED is to shape the next generation of soccer talent through elite athletic mentorship. ROOTED was founded by professional footballer Robert Castellanos to give back to the Antelope Valley — building what he never had: a dedicated space where young athletes can train, grow, and transform through sport. The organization is new. The goal is to have a high-performance facility building up and running in 2026.

The conversations in the gymnasium were centered around parents and guardians and how they can relate to their children involved in sports and in general, good family relationships, and how we shape our children’s lives and their future.

Ms. Shannon Brooks with Antelope Valley Partners for Health (AVPH) recorded the results of the Community Component ice breaker: a ‘snowball’ fight. The paper upon which everyone wrote their thoughts were rolled up into “snowballs” for a snowball fight. All of the papers were gathered up after the fight and will be used to analyze results and future actions. Facilitating the Community Component was Carlos of SBCC and Izzy with Antelope Valley Partners for Health. Adrian Falcon and Basilio Hernandez of SBCC were also active facilitators.

Question number 1 was, “If you could organize a free event, what would it be?” Question number 2 was “Tell us something good that happened to you this weekend.”

The answers covered many topics and were similar in common hopes and goals for our children, your biggest hopes for your children and how do you handle emotions when your child experiences an outcome that was disappointing. Some of the responses were:

o Meeting and sharing with new people

o The event and how kids got to explore how far they can go

o Having the opportunity to keep learning and practicing soccer to get to the professional level.

o Some kids aspire to being a goalie and we are supporting them.

o Allow them to speak about how they feel and validate those feelings.

o Free sporting events

o Multi-faceted events to help kids find new activities they otherwise might not have access to.

o Explain the win/lose process, tell them not to be disappointed with their performance and they will have practices and develop abilities to do a great job.

o No matter if it is a win or lose, our support and love is always with them.
