220 Lake LA family members drawn to GOAT movie

Lake Los Angeles – Stephen Sorensen Community Regional Park (SSOR) – 220 people of all ages came to the park on Friday evening, July 24, 2026, as the summer movies and music series continued with a big-screen showing of GOAT.

Prior to the movie the splash pad was working overtime with the many LLA children cooling off in the water. Did you ever notice how children never walk? They SPRINT! The splashing was not limited to children as several adults stood under a bucket and got drenched. The temperature was 97° at 6:00pm and the cool water was refreshing and appreciated.

The SBCC NAC Crocheting for a Cause group met at the gymnasium earlier and then joined everyone to enjoy the movie together.

At movie time it was balmy warm, popcorn and other treats in a goodie bag along with nachos were distributed to the movie goers along with a water station where everyone could help themselves to a cool drink of water.

Nayeli Barron and her team of young people with the Youth at Work program filled the goodies bags, set up the table and water station and served everyone who came to the movie.

Youth@Work provides LA County youth with paid work experience, employment training, and support services to help prepare for future career pathways. Los Angeles County residents ages 14 to 24 who have the right to work in the United States are eligible to apply. Priority is given to youth from underserved communities, including foster, probation, CalWORKs, low-income households, homeless, transition-aged youth, LGBTQIA+, pregnant or parenting, youth with disabilities, offenders, or English language learners. The Youth@Work program places youth in meaningful paid positions that build leadership, teamwork and customer service skills. Participants gain hands-on job training, resume support, and interview preparation to help launch long-term careers in high-growth, in-demand industries. Our SPOT and ESTEAM program members were also in attendance.

LLA Resident/Resource Deputy Giberto Borruel came to the park to support the event and to see for himself how well organized and managed the park is and how the families of the community turn out in numbers and enjoy a family night out together.

Next in line to entertain the community’s families is Country Night in the park where country music will be presented in the evening of August 1 starting at 6:00pm. A whole lot of singalong is expected, and a line dance might break out unexpectedly.

MINECRAFT THE MOVIE will be shown at sunset on Friday, August 7. Then RnB Music will be at the park on Saturday, August 15 starting at 6:00pm. The Little Rascals movie will be shown on Friday, August 21 at sundown. LLA JAZZ NIGHT in the Park will be on Saturday, August 29 starting at 6:00pm, concluding an especially memorable summer of movies and music at our very special family park.
