Gov. Gavin Newsom allows reopening outdoor hair salons, nail salons amid coronavirus pandemic
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a press briefing Monday new guidelines are now available for hair and nail salons, barbershops and other personal services that wish to operate outdoors
New guidelines also state that some personal care services that require touching a client's face, such as facials and waxing; nail services; and massage therapy, can also be performed outdoors if safety measures are met.
The guidelines for outdoor hair salons and barbershops include:
Employees and customers have to wear masks the entire time
Create an outdoor reception area where guests can check in
No handshakes, hugs or similar greetings
Workers should wear a face shield with a face covering when doing services on the face/neck that don't allow clients to wear a mask
Disposable gloves should be worn during the entire service
Use single-use applicators instead of reusable ones (where necessary)
Ask manicure clients to use hand sanitizer first
Los Angeles County: One reason Los Angeles County has nearly half of the state's COVID-19 cases is because of its huge population and the fact that it's doing so much testing. Still, the county is being asked to keep a close eye on positivity rates as an indicator that community transmission is on the rise. They're also testing every resident and staff member at all 235 skilled nursing facilities in the county.
