LASD Deputy in Lancaster involved shooting

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred this morning, Thursday, June 11, 2020, at approximately 5:22 a.m. on the 600 block of West Avenue H-12 in Lancaster.

Homicide detectives have learned Lancaster Station deputies responded to the location regarding a domestic violence in progress call for service. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the suspect inside the location and attempted to detain him for a domestic violence investigation. The suspect refused to comply with the deputy's orders, and an altercation between the deputies and the suspect ensued. During the altercation, the suspect reached down and attempted to gain control of one of the deputy's firearm. It was at that time when a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect, a Black male approximately 60 years old, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No deputies were injured during the incident.

There is no additional information available at this time. The investigation is ongoing and West Avenue H-12 between Elm and Beech remain closed.
