Hair salons, barbershops can reopen now, in Stage 3 of Newsom’s plan

Counties can begin reopening hair salons and barbershops, based on a county-by-county approach.

Newsom said counties that elected to reopen salons must meet the criteria to move ahead of the current statewide restrictions and require shops to take precautions to protect workers and patrons.

Gov. Newsom said 47 out of 58 California counties had met the state’s regional standards, which include preparations to increase hospital capacity, testing and supplies of protective equipment.

The new state guidelines say services that cannot be performed with face coverings, or that require touching the customer’s face, remain suspended. These include eyelash services, eyebrow waxing and threading, and facials.

There is no immediate word on whether Los Angeles County would among those able to reopen barbershops and hair salons.
