Artists encouraged to enter Palmdale’s Courson Park Pool mural competition

The City of Palmdale is seeking proposals from artists and/or an artist-led team whose proposed work will engage the community and serve as a springboard to creating beautiful murals in Palmdale. Mural theme: Aquatics. The design inspiration is up to the artist, but the submission should enhance the overall environment of the pool setting. The mural will be 31 ft. wide by 9 ft. tall and will be a 2D project. It will be painted by the selected artist or artist-led team on the west-facing interior wall, within the perimeter of the Courson Park Pool. The winning artist will be awarded a $1,800 stipend plus $400 for supplies furnished by the Public Art Committee whose vision is, through the Public Art Master Plan, to strategically shape Palmdale’s physical and social character through arts and cultural activities. Successful submissions will include: 1. Completed application. 2. Proposed sketch or sketches of the mural. Multiple design concepts are acceptable. 3. Examples of previous work.

MPORTANT DATES: June 8: Application due date July 14: Selected artist announced July 20-August 13: Mural installation August 24: Tentative unveiling date

Applications will be reviewed by the Public Art Coordinator and Artist Selection Panel before being forwarded to the Public Art Committee. The Public Art Committee will select the proposal that best meets the City’s objectives for this project. The Public Art Committee reserves the right to contact finalists prior to final selection for clarification or expansion of their proposal. Any and all applicable City permits and approvals must be met prior to installation at no charge to the artist. This project is being considered as the City continues its efforts to formally adopt its Public Art Master Plan and corresponding mural policy.
