As a result of the County and State’s “Safer at Home” order, the public will not be permitted to physically attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7.

The meeting will begin at 7 pm and will be broadcast live on Spectrum Channel 27 and livestreamed at https://cityofpalmdale.org/310/City-Council-Meetings.

Residents who would like to comment on the agenda items during public comment may email their questions or comments to PublicComments@cityofpalmdale.org or text to 661/382-2515 before the meeting or during the public comment period.

Additionally, there is a form set up on the City’s website at http://cityofpalmdale.org/PublicComment where residents can also submit their questions or comments prior to the meeting.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, individuals requiring a disability-related modification or accommodation to participate in this meeting, may call the City Clerk’s Office at 661/267-5151.

Coronavirus task force officials have been warning that the weeks ahead will be particularly challenging. Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force said over the weekend: "The next two weeks are extraordinarily important. This is the moment to do everything that you can on the president's guidelines. This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store and not be going to the pharmacy – but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe.”

So, we at the City want to encourage everyone to continue to stay home especially for the next two weeks. If you do have to go out to get important items such as food or medicine, we advise you to consider using a face covering to help protect yourself or others.

Our medical providers have informed us that they are in need of the N95 respirators. The CDC also recommends that those masks be used for the health care workers and medical providers.

They suggest that members of the public use simple cloth face coverings when in a public setting to slow the spread of the virus, since this will help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. You can make a simple covering by using a bandana or a cloth. Lots of local people are making face coverings and either selling them or giving them away.

Speaking of staying home, this coming weekend is Easter. It’s traditionally a time we don’t stay home. Churches are usually packed with people, many dressed up in new springtime fashions. With the Safer at Home order, most churches will not be holding services where people can attend. They’ll be holding their services online, either on their webpages or through Facebook Live. We encourage everyone this Easter to please stay home with your family. Make plans to attend Easter services on line, or video chat or call family friends and neighbors.

By doing these things, we can help flatten the curve, keep our selves safe, and help prevent our hospitals and medical centers from being overwhelmed.

Stay safe. #PalmdaleCares
