Lake Los Angeles – Challenger Middle School – This is an eerie shot of the Wilsona School District buses lining up, picking up their lunches for their students on the route along with learning packets in the quiet morning drizzle and heavy grey skies … such precious cargo.
WSD Board President Vladimir Gomez and I were excited to take pictures of the Big Yellow Bus brigade entering the driveway of the school. He made a video, and then it dawned on both of us how sad it was to be there and no kids.
This is an emotionally charged time for community, parents, students, teachers and staff to be forced apart due to this virus crisis and yet at the same time the food service staff and bus drivers were in a party mood to get the buses rolling out and to see and hear and to help their students and their families.
Everyone was cheerful and so positive about getting their Chromebook and eager to continue their learning experiences.
This is an emotionally charged time for community, parents, students, teachers and staff to be united as one body.
When this is over, let’s hang on to this incredible spirit we witnessed today: one brief moment where we felt a sense of belonging, a group of people that care about one another and work together and support each other through good and hard times.
Yes, we had that moment in LLA today.
