Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve Closure Announcement from California State Parks.

The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve (Poppy Reserve) has experienced an exceptional wildflower bloom this year.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the critical need for all Californians to practice social/ physical distancing to help slow the spread of the pandemic disease, California State Parks is recommending the public not to visit the park. All museum and visitor centers, parking day use areas and campgrounds in the state parks system are closed until further notice.

The State of California understands the public’s need to enjoy the benefits of nature during the COVID-19 pandemic. For those wishing to take a break in the outdoors, public health officials are advising them to walk, run, hike and bike in their local neighborhoods and walk to parks. This is not the time for a road trip to a destination park or beach.

The Poppy Reserve is considered a destination park. For those who wish to view the poppy blooms, State Parks invites them to do so virtually viewing the poppy cam, which live streams the current conditions. The park will also have virtual tours with staff doing live feeds via the park’s Facebook platform.

State Parks thanks the public for their understanding during these unprecedented and challenging times. Protecting individuals, families and communities comes down to common sense.

If the public decides to venture out to the Poppy Reserve, please note that the parking lot at this park and all state parks are now closed. Additionally, there is very limited, legal parking outside the destination park.
