Update , Gun Stores can remain open, as per LA County Kathryn Barger and Sheriff Villanueva.
illanueva acknowledged that gun sales are necessary for security and law enforcement personnel, in addition to their protection under the Second Amendment.
On March 19, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Executive Order N-33-20, ordering Californians to stay home or at their place of residence except as needed to maintain continuity of operations of the 16 federal critical infrastructure sectors. The order stated Californians must have access to such necessities as food, prescriptions, and health care, then identified "Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers."
Nowhere in the order is there a provision for businesses not related to providing food, prescriptions, or health care. There are hundreds of businesses which, through no fault of their own, do not fall under the Governor’s definition of critical infrastructure. As a result, I have instructed my deputies to enforce closures of businesses which have disregarded the Governor’s order (gun stores, strip clubs, and other non-designated businesses).
The goal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department during this time of crisis is to keep the community safe through voluntary compliance, common sense, and selective situational enforcement. We are all in this together and will emerge stronger as a community.
