Former Rideshare Driver Sentenced for Raping Passenger

A North Hollywood man has been sentenced to six years in prison for raping a 24-year-old woman while he was working for a rideshare company, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

In November 2019, Alaric Spence (dob 9/17/70) was found guilty of one count of rape of an intoxicated woman. A judge sentenced him yesterday and ordered lifetime sex offender registration. Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case.

On June 23, 2017, Spence picked up the victim in downtown Los Angeles. The defendant then drove the victim to a motel in North Hollywood where he raped her, the prosecutor said.

The victim was heavily intoxicated at the time of the sexual assault, the prosecutor added.

When the woman woke up, she reported what happened to police. Spence was arrested a short time later.

BA458608 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division.
