Firefighters Continue To Combat The Tick Fire.

The Tick Fire  has destroyed several structures, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. It had spread to almost 4,000 acres and is zero percent contained Thursday night 9:00 P.M

There are currently 500 firefighters, aided by five helicopters, who will be working through the night to contain the blaze.  

Some Freeways were shut down due to fires that broke out in the Santa Clarita Valley and in the San Fernando Valley ateas.  

Due to fire conditions and impact to the community, all classes at the Valencia and Canyon Country campuses are canceled Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24 and 25. American Red Cross evacuation center is set up at the Valencia campus. https://www.canyons.edu/administration/pio/power-outage-status.php

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the state has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of resources to fight the Tick Fire burning in Los Angeles County. The grant also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs. 

Los Angeles Unified has closed all of its schools in the San Fernando Valley on Friday, Oct. 25, due to air-quality and safety concerns from the Tick Fire and other brushfires burning in the region. In addition, Community Elementary, Roscomare Road Elementary, Topanga Elementary Charter, Valley View Elementary, Wonderland Avenue Elementary and Elementary Day School will be closed.

Transportation to and from all of these schools will be cancelled for the day, and all athletic activities will be cancelled or postponed.

Public safety officials urge residents to remain vigilant throughout the evening, as red flag winds will continue until 10 p.m. Friday night. Evacuation orders are still in effect.
