Sergeant Steve Owen, was killed in the line of duty on October 5, 2016. Lancaster Sheriff's Station will be hosting our annual 24 hour vigil in honor of our beloved sergeant and friend. Starting at midnight on Saturday, October 5, 2019 (Friday night into Saturday morning), the vigil will be held at the corner of 32nd Street West and West Avenue J-8. The vigil will conclude on Saturday night at 11:59pm. While West Avenue J-8 will remain open to vehicle traffic, we kindly ask our residents to use caution, as there will be a lot of foot traffic and activity in the area. Please drive extra slow as you approach. We invite all residents of our community to participate in the vigil. Sergeant Owen was loved by so many. If you would like to pay your respects, feel free to stop by anytime during the 24 hour period. Please note, a small portion of the north sidewalk on West Avenue J-8 will be closed for safety, and any items such as flowers, banners, etc, you choose to bring can be walked over by a department member. However, nothing more than your prayers and well wishes are needed and appreciated. This is always a difficult week for our station. The magnitude of the man, leader and friend we lost is felt every single day in our station's hallways. We thank our community for allowing us to hold his vigil, but also for joining us. #LASD #AV411 #myherowearsabadge #811GS Lancaster Sheriff's Station
