Palmdale City Library Celebrating ‘Talk Like a Pirate’ Day

PALMDALE – The Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day with a series of events on Thursday, Sept. 19. Events planned for the day include information and demonstrations of Mango Languages, the Library’s online language learning program. Mango is available for free with a Palmdale City Library card using the link on the Library’s website or the Mango Languages app. Mango features over 70 languages, including pirate, and includes more than 20 ESL specialty courses. The Library will also host a pirate themed craft program from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The day will conclude with a showing of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) rated PG-13 at 5 p.m. Admission and popcorn available for free. Anyone who visits the Library on “Talk Like a Pirate Day” and is willing to have their picture taken will be added to the “treasure chest of scallywag photos” will be automatically entered into a prize drawing. “Talk like a Pirate Day is upon us,” said Assistant Library Director Debbie Petersen, “We hope you will join us for some pirate fun!” The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
