Skate Park opens August 14th, 2019 at George Lane Park in Quartz Hill.

QUARTZ HILL - Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger is inviting youngsters to bring their skateboards, scooters, skates and helmets to the grand opening celebration for a $2.1 million skate park that has been under construction since late last year at George Lane Park. The grand opening will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the park, 5520 West Ave. L-8. Funded by Los Angeles County, in part through a parks tax measure approved in 1996 by county voters, the skate park was designed and constructed by Rialto-based Spohn Ranch Skateparks, which has built more than 170 skate parks around the United States and overseas. Last spring Spohn Ranch Skateparks completed a skate park at a county park in Castaic. Construction of the George Lane Park skate park began in November. The skate park replaced a little-used horseshoe pit area in the northern part of George Lane Park, which is operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Shaped by the goal of preserving as many trees as possible, the 15,000-square-foot skate park features a bowl, a beginner-friendly “snake run” and a variety of street elements including stairs, grind rails and grind ledges, according to the builders. The work also included adding shade, seating, a drinking fountain, a bicycle rack and a lighting system.
