Man drowns in the Kern River

On July 30, 2019 at about 5:53pm, Kern County Sheriff’s Office and Bakersfield Fire Department responded to the Kern River in the Lake Ming area for a drowning victim.

45-year-old David Humberto Uceda Velis of Los Angeles was swept underwater in the Kern River. 

He was located unresponsive and removed from the river. CPR was initiated; however, life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

Velis is the fifth person to die in the Kern River this year. An 11-year-old girl remains missing.
