Programs and events hosted by the City of Palmdale,  schedule as follows. 

Palmdale City Library Friday, August 2 & 9 Bilingual Storytime, 10 am. All ages, with Miss Maria. Friday, August 2 Magic of Rafael & Katia, 1 pm. A grand finale of our summer reading program. Come and join us for an afternoon of comedy illusion and fun. Saturday, August 3 & 10 Baby & Me Lapsit, 9:30 am. Ages 0-18 months. Saturday, August 3 Chess for All, 10 am. Free play sessions for new and experienced players, chess sets are provided. Free admission, open to all ages. Holistic Poetry, 3 pm. Join us in discovering and examining who we are in mind, body, and spirit through the reading, writing, and discussion of poetry. Participants are encouraged to bring their own works and the works of their favorite authors to share! Program led by local poet Lida Abramiam. August 3 & 4 Sizzling Summer Book Sale, 10 am to 4 pm. Great deals to be had on gently used, like-new books. Shop early for best selection. Members only preview at 9 am. Monday, August 5 Kindness Rocks, 4 pm. Bringing the community together to spread kindness by painting rocks for others to find. Paint and rocks are provided. Free admission, open to all ages. Tuesday, August 6 Preschool Storytime, 1 pm. Ages 3–5 with Miss Shakeena. Tuesday, August 6, 13, 20 & 27 Legal Aid for Low Income Individuals, 3 to 6 pm. Services provided by the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles by appointment only. Call the library at 267-5600 to schedule. Wednesday, August 7 Toddler Storytime, 9:15 and 10:15 am (2 sessions) with Miss Shakeena. Ages 12-36 months. Midweek Movies, 5:30 pm. Kong Skull Island (2017), rated PG-13. Free admission, open to all ages. Thursday, August 8 Page to Screen, 5 pm. Read the book then join us for a showing of the movie, we will discuss the book-to-movie adaptations, debating the age-old question of which one is better. This month will be Eat, pray, love with the movie Eat, Pray, Love (2010) rated PG-13. Friday, August 9 & 23 Paint, Draw, Create, 2 pm. Art class for all ages with Juanita McWilliams. Tuesday, August 13 Coffee & Coloring for Adults, 10 am. We provide the coffee and coloring supplies, you provide the conversation and creativity. STEAM Thinkshop, 4 pm. Ages 5 to 11. Enjoy activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics in a “hands on” environment. Wednesday, August 14 Midweek Movies, 5:30 pm. Back to the Future (1985), rated PG. Free admission, open to all ages. Thursday, August 15 Young Americans, 4:30 pm. Civics based conversations for teens. Saturday, August 17 Chess for All, 10 am. Free play sessions for new and experienced players, chess sets are provided. Free admission, open to all ages. Tuesday, August 20 Wii U Tournament, 4 pm to 5:30 pm. Come play video games at your local library. Open to all. African-American Authors Book Club, 6:45 pm. All adults welcome. Discussion of a new title by African-American authors each month. Thursday, August 22 Yoga, 6pm. Free yoga session led by the local yoga studio “The Yoga Roots.” Open to anyone age 16 and over. Monday, August 26 Classics Book Club, Palmdale City Library, 7 pm. A new title each month Tuesday, August 27 Books and Barks, 3:30 pm to 5 pm. Build your kids’ reading skills by letting them read to friendly, non-judgmental dogs in one of our most popular events. Wednesday, August 28 Midweek Movies, 5:30 pm. Overboard (2018) rated PG-13. Free admission, open to all ages. Friday, August 30 Storycrafters Club, 3:30 pm. For children age 5-9. Join us for a monthly story and craft program. At the Parks Thursday, August 1 & 8 - Domenic Massari Tots Hour, 9:30-10:30 am. Tots will be provided with free hands-on activities that give them the opportunities to explore their world through a variety of indoor and outdoor experiences. Ages 2-5. Thursday, August 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Maker Thursdays, 5-7 pm. Hands on and creative ways for kids to invent, play, design, and explore. Ages 8+ Thursday, August 1- Domenic Massari Park Music in the Parks, 6-8 pm. Music by RicJames Band and food trucks will be on site. Free kids’ activities and dance lessons. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. Friday, August 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30- Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Family Game Night, 5-7:30 pm Board games are made available for families to check out and engage in friendly competitions. Ages 5+. Fitness Fridays, 5-7:30 pm Bring your family down to the park to engage in fun recreational challenges! Ages 5+. Saturday, August 3, 17, 24 & 31 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Tots Hour, 9:30-10:30 am. Tots will be provided with free hands-on activities that give them the opportunities to explore their world through a variety of indoor and outdoor experiences. Ages 2-5. Surprise Saturdays, 10 am-2 pm. Check in with park staff to see what they have planned for the day. Activities may include crafts and/or games, including water activities. Ages 8+. Free Saturday, August 3- National Disc Golf Day- Desert Sands Park 11am-3pm. Discs and scorecards will be available for free play. Members of Antelope Valley Disc Golf Club will be on site to give free lessons. Sunday, August 4, 11, 18 & 25 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Family Retro Day – 10 am - 2 pm. Bring your family and friends out to the park for some good old fashioned fun! Try your hand at some badminton, bocce or croquet! See park staff for details. All ages welcome. Space Sundays – 3 -4 pm. Do you dream about space? Stop by the park office for inspirational crafting themed about our universe. All ages welcome. Monday, August 5, 12, 19 & 26 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Science Mondays – 5-7:30 pm. Park staff will offer kid activities and games to the tune of music. All ages welcome. See park staff for upcoming planned activities. Wednesday, August 7, 14, 21 & 28 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr Water Play, 5-7:30 pm. The heat is still here. Park staff will provide small friendly water games to help keep kids cool while still be engaged. All ages welcome. Saturday, August 10 - Domenic Massari & Marie Kerr End of Summer Blast, 9-11am. It’s your last chance to have s’more fun! Come celebrate National S’more Day and receive a free grab bag of s’more inspired goodies while supplies last. Park staff will provide fun lawn games for families to enjoy. Free activities, families welcome. Thursday, August 15- Joe Davies Heritage Airpark Twilight Tours, 5:30-10:30 pm. Pack up and take the family out for a unique night at the airpark. Free guided tours at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. Picnic tables and BBQs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking is free. Gates open at 5 pm. Saturday, August 24 – Yellen Dog Park End of Summer Splash, 6-8pm. The dog days of summer are coming to an end, let’s celebrate together with a splash! Park staff will bring out dog pools, fun dog games, and some yummy treats. The dog park features separate enclosures for big and small dogs to allow them to socialize freely and make new friends.
