Recently, Palmdale has seen a slight increase in thefts. We would like to provide you with 10 safety tips to remember that will help prevent this crime from growing: 1. When leaving your vehicle, keep valuables on your person, in a locked trunk, or out of plain view. -Criminals are always looking for a quick "smash and grab" burglary. Do not make it easy for them! 2. Ensure all doors and windows are locked a secure before exiting your vehicle, residence, or office. 3. Never leave your car running with the keys in the ignition. Even if it's "just for a minute." 4. Do not carry around more than you need. Leave unnecessary valuable items (social security cards, birth certificates, mail, old ID's and driver's licenses) secured inside your residence. Carry only the minimum amount of cash or credit cards you will need for the day. 5. When meeting up with strangers from online buy/trade sell websites, utilize Palmdale Sheriff's Station "Safe Exchange Zone." -This area is located in the front parking lot of Palmdale Station and monitored by surveillance cameras 24/7. If a buyer/seller refuses to meet you at the station, this should be a red flag! 5. Avoid isolated areas—underground garages, alleys, parking lots, and offices after business hours. 6. Keep a firm grip on your purse or backpack. Keep the bag zipped closed, under your arm, and near the front of your body. 8. Stay visible. Meet up with others and park your vehicle in a well lit area. 9. Be careful posting your exact location on social media. Criminals prefer to break in when no one is at home. 10. The MOST important thing you can do is call the police to report a crime or any suspicious activity. -You have to be the eyes of your neighborhood.
