MOAH CEDAR and the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation (LMPAF) invite Antelope Valley residents and visitors to the opening reception of their annual high school student art show, CEDARFEST. The opening reception will take place on Friday, April 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. CEDARFEST is a celebration of the up-and-coming, burgeoning talent developing in Antelope Valley high schools. The 2019 exhibition will be the largest in recent years, occupying both the MOAH:CEDAR gallery and the 2nd floor galleries of the Cedar Center for the Arts. This year, curators from the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) visited each school site, where they conducted portfolio reviews with over 200 students. This component of CEDARFEST is designed to cultivate and strengthen the Museum’s connection with the students themselves. Participating schools include nine high schools scattered throughout the Antelope Valley Union High School District; as well as Paraclete High School, iLead School, Learn4Life, and the Gorman Learning Center. The CEDARFEST opening reception will culminate in the LMPAF sponsored student awards ceremony, which will begin promptly at 6 p.m. During the ceremony more than $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to select participants. Light refreshments and entertainment will be provided. New this year, students are invited to stay after the awards ceremony and participate in the CEDARFEST Open Mic Night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Open Mic Night participants are welcome to perform music, songs, spoken word poetry, and even stand-up comedy. Going forward, Open Mic Night will be a weekly program for teens held at Cedar Memorial Hall every Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Together with the Museum of Art & History, MOAH:CEDAR is a catalyst for engaging a diverse audience through captivating exhibitions, innovative artists, and dynamic programming. The gallery aspires to encourage progressive ideas and experimental genres of artwork, which highlight performance, education, and studio practice. MOAH:CEDAR is open Thursday – Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.lancastermoah.org/moah-cedar or call (661) 723-6250.
