PALMDALE – The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel The French Lieutenant’s Woman by John Fowles on Monday, April 22, at 7 pm, at the Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.

Written in 1969, the novel is set in the mid-nineteenth century and tells the story of Sarah Woodruff, a woman who fell in love with and was then abandoned by a French lieutenant. While living in disgrace in the coastal town of Lyme Regis, Sarah meets Charles Smithson, an orphaned gentleman engaged to the daughter of a wealthy tradesman, who falls in love with her while listening to her story.

The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 pm. New members are welcome to attend.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
