Third Annual Culminating Action Project (CAP) the Health and Wealth Fair

Palmdale, CA- March 26, 2016 – Antelope Valley YouthBuild (AVYB) participants will host their Third Annual Culminating Action Project (CAP) the Health and Wealth Fair on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Antelope Valley YouthBuild’s campus, located at 38136 35th Street East in Palmdale.

Various workshops will include: Jobs (employability/resume building/mock interviews/job exploration), STDs/Teen pregnancy, Blood pressure, Drug addiction/alcoholism, Homelessness, Mental health/Domestic violence (most workshops will be student-led, but some partners are also conducting workshops.)

The community is encouraged to join Antelope Valley YouthBuild participants, community businesses, AVYB’s partner organizations, alumni, supporters, community members and Antelope Valley YouthBuild’s staff for this very special for this event free of charge. A few of our special guests include: Tarzana Treatment Center- alcohol related topics/prevention; Nami-Mental Health; Palmdale Sheriff's Department; AV Saving Grace-domestic violence; One Linc-employment and City of Palmdale.

The mission of YouthBuild is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of "opportunity" for youth to rebuild their communities and their lives. We seek to join with others to help build a movement toward a more just society in which respect, love, responsibility, and cooperation are the dominant unifying values, and sufficient opportunities are available for all people in all communities to fulfill their own potential and contribute to the well-being of others. Antelope Valley YouthBuild is a youth and community development program that simultaneously addresses core issues facing low-income communities: housing, education, employment, crime prevention, leadership and community development. Antelope Valley YouthBuild is unique in offering an accredited high school diploma and hands-on occupational training in Construction, Wildland Fire Technology to low-income youth ages 16-24 while working toward their GEDs or high school diplomas. Participants spend 6 to 24 months in the full-time program, dividing their time between construction and the YouthBuild alternative school. AVYB’s participants serve their communities by building affordable housing, and transforming their own lives and roles in society.

The CAP celebration begins at 10:00 am the day’s schedule will be as follows:

--- Special guests will be representing businesses from the local community to discuss hiring practices and employment in the Antelope Valley.

11:30-2:00 p.m. --- WORKSHOPS
