“Sunset Boulevard” Featured at Palmdale Playhouse This Sunday


PALMDALE – The Palmdale Playhouse, located at 38334 10th St. East in Palmdale, will show the 1950 black comedy/drama “Sunset Boulevard starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson on Sunday, March 20 in the final installment of the Winter Classic Movie Series.

Joe Gillis (William Holden), an unsuccessful screenwriter is drawn into the fantasy world of Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), a faded silent moviestar with dreams of making a triumphant return to the screen. Director Cecil B. DeMille and gossip columnist Hedda Hopper play themselves, and the film includes cameo appearances by leading silent film actors Buster Keaton, H. B. Warner and Anna Q. Nilsson.

Doors open at 1 pm and the movies begin at 2 pm. Arrive early and enjoy a complimentary dessert and beverage with paid admission. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $4 for students with current ID.

“If you ever wanted to see a Hollywood film from the golden years presented on the big screen the way it was intended, now’s your chance,” said Palmdale Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro. “With our new state-of-the-art sound and projection system, you’ll get to enjoy this classic movie as it was meant to be shown.”
