Kelly Harrington accepts post with LA Sheriff’s Department


Kelly Harrington, Director of CDCR’s Division of Adult Institutions, has accepted the post of Assistant Sheriff – Custody Operations with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“We’re sorry to say goodbye to Kelly Harrington,” CDCR Secretary Scott Kernan said. “His leadership has been key to making our prisons safer and more conducive to rehabilitation. CDCR’s loss is Los Angeles County’s gain, and we wish him all the best in his new job.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said, “It is my firm belief that … Kelly’s background and experience in running one of the nation’s largest state prison systems … makes him uniquely qualified to continue the extraordinary work that his predecessor Terri McDonald began.”McDonald is a former CDCR Undersecretary of Operations.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said the agency is responsible for operating and maintaining the nation’s largest jail system, providing custody services for Los Angeles County. Custody Operations include seven correctional facilities with a daily population of approximately 18,000 inmates.
