“Books and Barks” Continues to Bring Kids and Dogs Together for Reading Success

PALMDALE – The highly popular “Books and Barks” program, in which kids are encouraged to read to friendly dogs, returns to the Palmdale City Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., on Tuesday, March 29 from 3:30 to 5 pm.

Presented in partnership with the High Desert Obedience Club, “Books to Barks” is designed to encourage kids to develop their reading skills. Kids of all ages can read stories to friendly, loveable dogs, without fear of being judged on their reading ability. This event is free, and no registration is required.

“Dogs make a great audience for struggling or reluctant readers,” said Library Associate Shay Hawken. “These dogs are trained to be ‘pawtastic’ listeners.”

The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.

For more information, please call the Palmdale City Library at 661/267-5600 or TDD 267-5167, or visit www.cityofpalmdale.org/library.
