Legacy Commons to Host 2ND Annual Black History Month Celebration This Thursday


PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s Legacy Commons for Active Seniors, located at 930 East Avenue Q-9, will host its second annual Black History Celebration entitled “Black History Transition” on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 1 to 2:30 pm.

The mistress of ceremony will be Ruth Knight. Lemozine Riddick will offer the opening prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Color Guard, the anthem “Lift Every Voice,” and a “Tribute to Inspired Heroes” by Barbara Malone.” Featured speaker will be John McDonald.

Also featured will be the Legacy Commons Line Dancers, the reading of poems by Janice Williams and Bruce Robertson, and the grand finale of “Reach Out and Touch Somebody.” Refreshments will be served.

The program was put together by the Legacy Commons Black History Month Committee of Delois Cade, Dorothy Carter, Charlene Coney, Ersie Franklin, Bill Gates, Denise Gregg, Brenda Johnson, Sheila Johnson, Ruth Knight, Lemozine Riddick, Bruce Robertson, Betty Smith, Valerie Smith, Harry Ward, Joyce White, Kathryn White, Sherry Williams and Janice Williams.
