LOS ANGELES COUNTY AIR SHOW ANNOUNCES TRIBUTE TO THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF PEARL HARBOR

The Los Angeles County Air Show, powered by Lockheed Martin, today announced a tribute to the upcoming 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor featuringTora! Tora! Tora! and Texas Flying Legends.

Tora! Tora! Tora! is a recreation of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor signaling the beginning of America’s involvement in World War II. An emotional and factual narration complete with President Roosevelt’s address places attendees in the battle and salutes fallen soldiers on both sides of the conflict. The performance includes replica Japanese “Zero” fighters, Kate torpedo bombers and Val dive bomber aircraft. Designed as a living history lesson, it is choreographed with realistic explosions, fire, smoke and precision flying all set to music. The motto of the Commemorative Air Force and the Tora! Tora! Tora! act is “Lest We Forget” and is not intended to promote nationalism or glorify war.

“Attending an air show where Tora! Tora! Tora! are performing is like having a 3-D Museum come visit you,” said Dennis Dunbar, executive director of the Los Angeles County Air Show. “2016 marks the 75th anniversary of the surprise bombing of Pearl Harbor adding Tora to the line up brings a vivid history lesson for air show spectators that they will never forget.”

Additionally, the Texas Flying Legends will make its debut performance in California at the Show. The group will perform choreographed routines of formations and simulated dog fighting while telling the story of the war in the Pacific. The performance aircraft includes the B-25J “Betty’s Dream,” A6M2 Zero, FG-1D Corsair, TBM-3E Avenger, P-40K “Aleutian Tiger,” and P-51D “South Dakota Kid II.”

“On behalf of our Board of Directors, comprised of local industry and community leaders, we’re excited to bring new acts not only to the Antelope Valley but to the state of California as well,” said Al Hoffman, president of the Los Angeles County Air Show. “In just three short years, we have built a world-class event with the collaborative efforts of sponsors, community partners, volunteers, and the leadership of Dennis Dunbar, our executive director.”

The Air Show will feature several of the top air show performers from around the country including headlining act, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, as well as other high-energy aerobatics, barnstorming and various warbirds. The Show will also focus on the innovative aircraft whose roots are tied to the Aerospace Valley. On the ground, spectators will be able to explore static aircraft displays, interact with pilots and crewmembers, and experience attractions and educational exhibits designed to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
